Pcv valve
I think mine is bad, it's an 04 overland with 178,000 miles. The valve is supposed to have no suction when the engine is idling correct? Mine has a lot of suction.

Old fart with a wrench
The PCV valve has a plunger balanced on two springs. They are designed to flow air at specific rates at specific vacuum settings and just about impossible to test. If in question, replace it. It can effect idle quality and fuel mileage. It's relatively cheap.
Take it from a guy who used to think "if it rattles, it's OK". It probably isn't.
