Default Programing key fob on a WJ

I was wondering what it takes to program a key fob on a WJ. Just got one with only a key, but I have extra ones from my old one... Do I need to go to the dealer or is there a way to do it on the car.

Anyone know? I probably just have to go to the dealer and buy a new one I'm assuming but it would be nice to be able to use an old one... Some cars you can re-program them.

If you have the right part number key FOB you can have the dealer or a locksmith do it. The dealer will be much higher most of the time. Our dealer charges $40 to program one and I just had a locksmith do it for $20.

Most locksmiths have them now. It was a mall locksmith I just took mine to yesterday. He said have a short walk and it will be done in 15 mins. We got back 10 mins latter and he was done and it worked like a champ.

Go to this place... https://www.ikeyless.com/ type in your vechile and it will give you the model # and thier price for one. BTW thwy are by far the cheapest so if your not in a rush you can order one from them and just have a local guy program it.

Both should work so you'll only pay to program them. Heck we found an old key FOB from a dodge and the wife took it to the one here and they gave her $10 for it.

apparently your locksmiths are better than WI ones. they are all old, old school, and can't work a computer much less an OBD2 scanner.

Understand that. The one I took it to is in a local mall and all they do is rekey cars and program FOB's.

no such thing as a mall locksmith around here.

dealer charges me $40 to program as many remotes to the car as the car can use...so, 4 after they clear the two codes from the original ones that are lost. that's not a bad deal.
