Good deal! Looks like we nailed that one! Look at the teeth on the flexplate for damage to the engagement face of them. You can get away with some chipping, but bad chipping can cause the new starter to wear quickly. Replacing the flexplate is a PITA!

There is some uneven odd wear but I think it's still ok to go. Didn't Hear any grinding since a new starter. Oddly enough the test the old starter came up passed but we did notice it engage oddly in the testing device. We're positive it was original 26 year old starter as was marked Chrysler Mitsubishi and such. Found the metal rattle was cat converter and it eases up as you drive. With the grinding gear sound gone at least I was able to roll through Tucson emissions like a breeze. Funny enough the young guy there said you just buy this. I said yes 91 charokee Laredo 75k 4x4 here's the title paid $800 his jaw hit ground. Lol. Literally. He said did they have 2? lol he sat inside to run engine for the test and he's like damn this things cherry still and has a rancho performance suspension. LOL I said yeah I needed a battery, starter and about $50 in other parts but she's on the road. ANYWAY Definitely thank you guys for the direction there getting that found. Next we need to dump fluids and get new rubbers on and get alignment checked mild pull to right might even just be those tires are all low but I'll leave that to the tire pros... Noticed a bit of seepage on oil and maybe tranny pan so maybe some gaskets coming soon. Get her back in top roadworthy shape. Fun project jeep. That starter was a head scratcher as I mean it started fine and ran like a champ just occasionally bogged and clattered then the metal sound was cat converter that does make a bit noise. We probably will drop a new exhaust system all way back also just not urgent issue it's not loud or leaking at this point.

have a great long weekend! Don't get too muddy.

You might want to check the tightness of the oil pan bolts and others. The gaskets have probably dried out and shrunk, allowing them to leak. Mopar makes a reusable trans pan gasket made of a sandwich of steel and neoprene that I've already used 3 times with no leaks yet! It's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for!

I decided to take for a short run today still notice slight hesitation cold and stalling till warm. Not sure if fuel related as I had to mess with the pump or if it's timing issue....

seems when warm less issue with that. Might wait a bit on tires and such till I know I'm 100%

***** EDIT **** deff fuel pump. Prob check valve. New one those for the weekend. Pressure was falling on shutdown still. ******
