Had problem starting. Used start pilot spray and engine made a loud explosion. Checked the error codes and the only one was cam shaft position sensor. Replaced that. Engine starts but now sounds like it's full throttle. Noticed that hoses from oil to manifold were broken, probably got blown apart. No codes show up. Any idea why engine is roaring like it's full pedal gas?

If one of your vacuum hoses on the manifold is broken then that's your problem, you have a vacuum leak.

Especially if it's the crankcase vent hose! That's a mammoth leak!

Thanks for the input. 4 days later my husband's BMW X5 croaked so decided to tow Jeep and get it fixed instead of doing ourselves. Appreciate all help.
BTW...shop said it was the manifold

I hate that when it's the manifold.

Really it cannot be 'the manifold'. It's those little lines you said disconnected, they are vacuum lines, and if they come loose your engine will race to the sky. Not good. Fix the lines. If they ding you for replacing the intake manifold, you have been had, big time.

Welllll, got manifold on. Runs great in idle but runs rough in gear. Maybe the ECM or whatever that computer is called. The cam shaft position sensor was replaced.

What engine are we talking about? If it's a WK, it ain't a 4.0L!

Ah! Now it makes sense. Is that a plastic manifold? It also isn't a WK. It's a WJ. The WK's started in 05.

Yep. Blew a hole in the back of it when starting fluid was used. Now my hubby is trying a crank shaft sensor to see if it helps.

You might have damaged the MAP sensor since it got overpressurized. That measures manifold vacuum to determine fuel mixture. If it's running, it's probably not the crank sensor.
