It starts to get hot at an idle. If I sit for long enough it will overheat and the check gauges light comes on. I have to put coolant in it about every 2-3 days on average.

x2 If this problem came on suddenly I would suspect that plastic impeller. One way to find out is to look inside radiator cap while revving engine and if coolant level does not drop it means water is not circulating....bad pump.

I know you said it was checked...but I had a bad water pump and for the most part it was totally random when it leaked. ie, every 5th or 9th or 11th trip and I only noticed when it was parked. (it's my "weekend" car, no DD)
The leaking was random enough until it really dumped a bunch of coolant one day and then I got it fixed. Until then I figured it was just a random hose loose/tiny leak. The coolant reservoir never went down. Never started to overheat.
It's possible you might have a totally random leak and it just hasn't happened when you were parked. In fact I don't think I noticed the leak unless it had been sitting a for at least a couple days. Finally pieced it all together when I saw a youtube video of the noise a dying water pump makes. (which it didn't make all of the time...)
