Shifting thunk could use some straight answers.
2007
Grand Cherokee Laredo
Automatic
3.7 L 6 cylinder gasoline engine
We bought this jeep used, and during the test drive we noticed a "thunk" when we shifted into reverse, and in park. It doesn't thunk when shifting as we're accelerating up to speed. When asked about it the previous owners said that it was a transmission mount. I asked the local parts store, and they suspected an engine mount. I don't know what the issue is and just trying to make the jeep last as long as I can, as we're on a budget.

Jack up a rear wheel (if limited slip both rear wheels)
slide under it and have someone rotate that wheel back and forth observe the drive line,
Look for any slop, be it U-Joints or the Rezzeva CV types, lay your hand on the shaft, if can't see, should be able to feel it.
