Simple WJ question
Does anybody know how to remove the head rests from the rear seat of a WJ? I've tried just lifting them out at the top of their travel, but there seems to be something stopping them from coming out. No, I haven't done any research and it's not really that important. It would just give me more help backing up, vision wise.
Before anyone gets froggy, I ain't buyin' no backup camera!

Have you ever removed your front ones for any reason?
My guess would be they work the same way.
If they are anything like an XJ then you have this one very visible tab that you push in to adjust the height.
But just pushing that will not let you remove the headrest.
Look very closely at the other one you can just make out this rectangle in the plastic.
Pushing both in at the same and pulling up lets you completely remove the headrest.
Of course seeing how it is a WJ probably means that it is nothing like an XJ. LOL.

My XJ has high backed buckets and no rear headrests, which I thought was weird, but no, Ive never tried to remove the front headrests in my WJ. SO what you're telling me is I have to have a second person to pull it up while I hold both buttons in? I never noticed there were 2, but it's possible. There's also a lever to pull up on to fold them so you can fold down the rear seat and notches in the bottom of the seat cushion for them to fit into. On the WJ, the rear seat is split so you can fold down only one side if you want, but also weirdly, it's not in the middle. The driver's side is only 1/3rd of the width.
With the rear seat folded down, I can turn my head and see much better to back into tight spaces. This is why I want to remove the headrests, since I seldom carry rear seat passengers anyway. My son sits back there on Sunday and hands me the comic section of the paper, but that's about it. We fold the seatbelt buckles under the seat when he does that to make the paper sections sit flat.

You can do it yourself if they work like front ones in an XJ do.
Little awkward? For sure. But doable.

I'll check it out. Thanks Ralph. I thought it was a stupid question to ask, but thought I'd give it a try anyway.
BTW, the visibility in an XJ is much better than a WJ. The width of the A pillar in the WJ is wide enough to completely hide a 5-ton box truck at 100 yards. The vent shades I have don't help either.

My back seats have a detent release button on the left side receiver holes for the headrest prongs, they can be a little stubborn sometimes, but usually a little squirt of silicone spray lube helps the detent to release.

Yeah, I can get them all the way to the top, but so far they won't come out. Another point is they are a PITA to fold every time I put the seat down. What's actually funny is I have a pair of front seat head rests in my garage from my ZJ, last I knew. I also have the lid from my XJs center console with a working latch! I removed it so it would be easier to reach over it for my newspapers. The one from the WJ is with it.

On a 99 I had, there was a part of the ring where the shafts of the head rests go in that you can press while pulling up. A little awkward, but it will release the front and rear head rests. Holler if you need a pic
