1998 jeep grand Cherokee. This morning on my way to work about half way it started to lurch when accelerating but would calm down and stop after a few seconds. Well someone in front of me had to make a turn I slow down to a stop and it dies on me. I call my wife she takes me to work. After work I stop at the jeep to start diagnosing. Based off what I felt this morning first thought was fuel pump. Have the wife turn the key while I had the (check valve??) on the rail slightly open to see if I have pressure. None it driped out a little, as a last ditch effort to get closer to home for a cheaper tow bill I hit it with a squirt of a either. It starts just fine I drive maybe 5-7 minutes when it starts lurching again only a few seconds when acceleration so I’m getting up to 75 mph and crushing to like 40mph it lurchs for a few seconds then stops and that repeats but it didn’t die. I made it about 10 minutes up the road when it starts just non stop lurching for maybe 5-10 seconds and it stalls. I check again for fuel pressure and I have it. I have five minutes left so I was gonna give it another shot and it doesn’t do anything at all. It cranks but no start even with the ether so I check the distributor cap to the frame with a screw driver( not the right way but it’s what I have with me) no arc at all. I don’t have a multi meter with me I left it at my job so I can’t check to see if the coil is getting power but right now I’m thinking coil or crank position sensor. Any idea guys? Thanks in advance
