Default Squeaky Sound - Blower Motor ?

There has been a squeaky sound coming from under the dash near the front passenger foot area, and it is quickly becoming worse. I used a soda pop bottle to hit the sound, hitting it on the blower motor located above where the front passengers keep their feet. That quiets down the noise. I am thinking the blower motor is getting worn-out, and I would like to replace it.

I do not believe this part is one if the ones needing to idealy be replaced with a Mopar brand for good performance, is it? Auto parts stores sell them from near $30.00 to near $100.00, and it seems a universal fit part for many vehicles. The inexpensive ones seem to get the same good reviews as do the more expensive blower motor replacements. It's a really high-pitched constant squeal whenever the a/c is on right now! I guess it should be replaced?

I was thinking of grabbing one of these from a junkyard pick n pull lot if they had one? Go and see what all they got? Get some sensors or something else while I am there looking around the place?

Yeah, it's going to burn out your resistor soon as well. If you've got dual-zone climate control it'll do worse than that! The universal ones come with just a 2 wire pigtail and must be wired in the correct polarity or they'll run backwards.

I unscrewed it and took out the blower motor, looked at it, and then put it back. That didn't help. It still squeals.

A different replacement blower motor may spin backwards? If so, do I just reverse the wires to get it to spin correctly?

I took out and inspected the resister. It looks okay. That resister sure gets hot though! Is it kept cooled down by being tucked up in that spot where it is located?

I just have the normal old-school climate control. Single zoned

D'oh! You think looking at it would change anything? What I'm saying is most replacement motors only have 2 pigtail wires on them. It's a permanent magnet motor so it will run in either direction depending on how you hook it up. The best way to figure it out is to hold the old motor in your hand and turn it on. Notice which direction the fan spins. Then connect the new motor temporarily and make it spin the same direction as the old one. That squirrel cage fan doesn't move much air in reverse. When you get into the wiring, keep in mind the fan is wired hot and the resistor and switch form the ground path.

The resistor is cooled by the air from the fan blowing over it. When air velocity drops the resistor gets too hot. It can get hot enough to melt the electrical connector.

Mine squealed LOUD, then only ran on high (resistor burned out). I got new from advanced, plugged right it, spun in the correct direction, under $50 with a coupon code.

I'm just saying universal fit ones are just the motor and you have to wire them and install your old fan cage. AND they are Chinese with a red wire and a black wire. The XJs don't have a squirrel cage fan either.
