Default Stalling and fluctuating idle.

Hey everyone, I have seen other threads covering this subject however i have not seen my exact issue. I have a 2010 jeep grand cherokee with the 5.7 engine. Has K and N airfilter.and a black widow muffler.
My issues has been when first driving the jeep if you drive it slow say going through a neighbor hood when you come to a stop sign the rpms will drop off and it will stall. It immediately starts again and the problem will not happen again that day. The rpms will also drop just below 500 and back up to 700 when parked. The vehicle does not throw any codes. During these events.
I started by checking and cleaning the air filter. I then replaced the engine coolant temp sensor as well as the crank shaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor. When the problem persisted I replaced the entire throttle body as well as the pcv valve and map sensor. I then disconected the negative battery terminal over night and re connected. I then did the computer throttle position reset involving holding down the gas pedal until a ding is heard. It seemed better for a few weeks and now it seems to be creeping back. The jeep stalled when I was idling into a parking spot and then again rpms fluctuated. I have had it to a mechanic also and they say they never got it to happen, i was surprised to see they had driven it 300 miles when I picked it up haha. Maybe someone has another idea for me

Thanks Dave

Hi Skeerman

Welcome to the forum. I read about your problem and immediately thought it sounds like it could be related to having a faulty Idle Air Control Valve (IAC). A whole new replacement throttle body should have come with a new one of those though, right?

You have replaced out a lot of parts trying to fix this problem. From a certain perspective this could be seen as a good thing.. for having a good idea of what it probably is not related to at this point.

I would be suspicious of the EGR valve now if it were me. A fault of the EGR valve can display the same similar type of symptoms you are experiencing with your Jeep.. of having strange fluctuations of RPM, an erratic idle, and stalling the engine out at low speed idle driving conditions.. to be aware.

I tried looking to find other cases of people with your style of Jeep who have had Similar-like issues. I found just a couple of them out there. A guy described what sounds like the exact same scenario as yours. It turned out to be his EGR valve. He replaced all of the same parts and the entire throttle body assembly with no improvement of the symptoms. A new EGR valve cleared up all of the symptoms entirely for him.

(edited to add):
The guy in the case above actually had a code thrown at first pointing to the EGR valve as the problem. He replaced it and the code cleared for him but, the problem remained... He went down the path of replacing all of those other parts and added in a brand new throttle body. He went back for some reason to look again at the new EGR valve that he had installed. He found an issue with the o-ring/piece that seals it all up right there, and he fixed the seal. Doing this was what got rid of the problem for him.

Maybe it could be a simple something like that for you too?

thanks for the suggestion I will take a look at that. I'll let you know if that was it.

I hope so.

I will let you know If I find any other things to look into as a reason for having this type of problem too.
