starts and stalls starts and stalls
I've got a 95 Grand cherokee, that has me totally baffled.
It starts right up, and dies, all the time.
When I first bought it, it ran, but there was a switch from the door, that came off the door lock, that if it didn't start, I had to rotate, to get to start.
Being the guy who likes all the bells and whistles to work, I went to a junkyard and got the rotary switch harness for the door, and also the short harness that goes from the door, to the door post, as there were wires cut and broken on the original one.
Jeep must have had a lot of problems with their wire harness, as most of the same models had theirs removed.
I've read that if you ground the violet wire, with a yellow stripe, it would deactivate the security system permanently.
I've tried that and it doesn't work.
I have the dash apart, and have unplugged the security thing. I'm sure it's the one, because it has a red plug in, and the violet/yellow wire is in the plug in.
The lights and horn do not come on, but it still starts and stops.
What I've also done, is that I found out it will stay running when I keep squirting fuel into the air throttle.
So I'm thinking fuel pump, and I replaced that. Still dies.
A friend told me his did the same thing, and it was the IAC valve. So I replaced that, and it did not work.
I've replaced the fuel filter and that didn't work.
The only thing I didn't change was the crank position sensor, and the cam position sensor.
I don't know what else to do. The vehicle is in too good of shape to scrap, but I don't know where to turn. I'm a do it yourselfer, so taking it to a garage is the very last straw.
Please anyone HELP!

Have you tested FUEL PRESSURE on the fuel rail?
I would check fuel pressure in the fuel rail.

I did test the fuel pressure, and it had 42 psi on the gauge. When I pressed the schrader valve there was not much pressure, so we thought the fuel regulator/fuel pump. We change that with a new one.
There is more fuel pressure at the fuel rail now, and pressure is the same.
According to the Haynes manual, I'm right in the ballpark.

a helpful hint
i have a 97 gc laredo V6, so i don't know it this helps or not. had my fuel pressure checked an got a 49. the pressure is supposed to be between a 44 - 54. if it's below a 44, you will have problems. ask someone what your pressure should fall between. it might be too low. that will cause you all kind of headaches. also, your crank position sensor will cause hard to start and stalling problems. the cam position sensor / pickup /relay can also cause stalling. usually it's the crank position sensor. they are notorious for going bad. auto parts stores sell inferior made cheap products. had to change one out after replacing it 6 months prior. dealer parts are more expensive but, better made. if you have to go the auto part route, buy from NAPA. again, more expensive but better made.
