Stock roof rack crossbars
I feel like a real retard for having to ask, but after struggling to get them off of the jeep in the junkyard I have to ask. How the f*** do these things go on and off? I kinda had to persuade them to get off of the donor vehicle. I got them some time ago, and want to start taking my son canoeing.

not sure what year you are refering to, but on ZJs, you remove the rearmost scews inside the roof rails, then lift the rail up and pull off the little end cap thing, then just push the button on the crossbar and slide it back until it pops off

How to Remove Roof Rack Cross Rails on an '02-04 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
1. Approach the passenger or driver's side rear side rails with an angled pry tool or a straightedge screwdriver.
2. Pry the front of the rear rail caps upward with the pry tool or screwdriver to unlock the tabs of the caps from the side rails. Repeat for the opposite side rear rail cap.
3. Approach the rear cross rail (either side) and pull up on the center lock (located on the outer edge of the cross rail) from the roof side. Repeat this step for the other side cross rail center lock.
4. Slide the rear cross rail down the rear of the side rails and remove it from the side rails.
5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for the front cross rails and then snap the rear side rail caps back into position.

Ol"blue, thanks for clearing that up. I thought I ripped those rear caps off in the junkyard, and didn't want to destroy mine.
Now to paint them, the finish is a bit oxidized. Anyone have any suggestions on a color or perhaps a way to get them looking nice again?
