Went to take off my rear lug nuts to do a brake job and apparently the last person stripped them. Any ideas besides slamming on a size too small to get these lugs off?? Any input would be great. Thanks

You mean rounded off the nuts I guess.
They make sockets for that purpose. But I don't know who sells them. Maybe Pep Boys?
Or you might get lucky and drive on a smaller socket.

Yea rounded off lug nuts socket wont fit snug. Soaked them in pb blaster and ill hit it again tomorrow with more. Ill look into that special socket you are talking about also.

Did the cheap metal covers come off of the nuts? If so, use an 18mm socket.

Now that you mention it I remember having the same problem. I switched to gorilla lug nuts.

i had that happen to someone cus of those cheap little metal cover on the lug nuts. had to force a socket onto em.
ive ran gorilla lug nuts for the past 3 years, theyre solid plus they take a key.

Purchase 20 decent solid lug nuts to use once you get the old ones off.

I bought a set of Craftsman extractor sockets that work very well. They have spiral sharp teeth inside that bite into the nut and get tighter as they advance. My largest one is 18mm and I think that's the one you need. You can also buy them individually. They've bailed me out lots of times.

Grabbed a set of extractor sockets. They first just ripped that cheap metal piece off the actual real lug nut. Soaked lugs in penetrating lube several times. Gonna wait a little bit and try the extractor sockets again. They are stripped and on real tight.......not a good combo.....

Hand torque the lug nuts to 100 foot pounds and you should not have that issue again. Do NOT use anti-seize on the studs, it will actually decrease the clamping force once the nuts are torqued. Use 30wt motor oil on the studs if you feel the need to lube them.

I am STILL working on this issue. Whoever put these lugs on put them on wayyyyyyy too tight. religiously spraying penetrating oil on the lugs. extractor sockets are just ripping apart the lugs. Another week or so im just gonna cut the rim off and get a new one.....

No I had the same problem with the lugs and the craftsman nut off set....I believe it was a 7/8 hole saw I used start it with the arbor once it's started pull out the arbor and just use the hole saw it will cut within a 32nd of the threads and the rest should just peel off I'll double check the size in a bit

Yes it was a 7/8 and I use the nut extractors till I got to the smallest I could use without damaging the stud the use the hole saw without the arbor....ignore the challanger get don't know why that showed up
