Tapping knocking sound

Hello. New to forum and already found a TSB for transmissions that describes the shuddering I have been feeling. Thanks!

My issue: My 2011 GC w/ 5.7 (105k mi) developed a metallic tapping/knocking sound. Not rod knock as it's too high-pitched and not regular. Took to dealer. They told me that they took the manifold off to look at an 'oil screen' under there somewhere (I've never heard of that, but ok). They said if there was metal shavings on that screen, then.....They said there was actually a hole in the screen where 'something' had punched through. They concluded that it's a lifter that's failed and I have metal in the engine and need to replace the entire engine. Fine. Bummer, but fine.

Well, long story short, I did not do the replacement and brought the truck home. Upon taking the cover off, there was litter (looks like a mouse has been staying warm on top of the manifold) of leaves and acorn shells, etc. all over the manifold. There is no way this manifold had been taken off as they told me.

Is there any way that I misunderstood what they told me about taking the manifold off? Is there some port or access panel that maybe they were talking about? Does their story of a 'screen' make sense? Link to short video of the sound: TAPPING SOUND
