wow 60+ views and nothing
find something shiny , and its really completely up to what you want man, what your using it for. how much you wanna spend. you can spend between 350-2500 depending on the brand.
you have to figure out your
winchable weight you want
steel or rope
how are you gonna mount it
will your alternator and battery be able to handle it or do you need to upgrade
how often do you go wheeling that you need a winch
there are ALOT of factors going into buying a winch, unless you wanna say to hell with it and just buy one
i know a buddy got a smittybuilt XRC8.5 i think or 9.5 for like 369.99 with free shipping and a cover (they always have sweet little deals just wait for the one you want) and that thing saved me *** a few times. when i get one itll be atleast a 9.5 or higher, incase i ever get in a situation i need to pull myself or someone else out dead weight no help at all i wanna know it will handle it. also you can grab a ****** block to help double the pulling strength. get tree savers so if your near a tree you can pull yourself out using that. and if you get in a shatty situation you can use the saver and a strap and anchor yourself to the tree to pull someone else out.
hope my little ramble helped out

Just to put in perspective my buddies winch pulled me out when a warn 8.5 couldnt with synthetic line. Idk why but the warn didnt pull me just kept drawing the guys alt down. Not say warn is a bad winch at all. But make sure your jeep can support it, frame/unibody, mount, alternator, battery and all that. Smittybuilt is a great company. But if your someome who.has the $ to spend and would feel warm and cozy go with a warn. Its a large name thats been proven the other guys just arent as big named but will run side by side for quality in my opinion

im not sure if mounting it to the bumper is a good idea, iceland offroad sells this bracket that mounts the the frame rails and it sticks out the stock bumper looks pretty neet and its $195, might be something you want to look into.

My 97 came with a smittybilt. So far I've been told it's slow, and the box needs to be moved into the engine bay because it isn't sealed well.. Soo, for now, I will have to live with slow, and keep it reasonably dry in the engine bay. I can handle that.. And for 300 bucks new, it's worth a shot.. A GOOD Warn is over 1k new..
How much are we talking here? I bought a Jeep that came with the winch with my tax return.... Everyone's return is different.... But I'd suggest a bumper and cheaper winch before an expensive winch on the stock bumper..

Warn only for me. Ive got a 8k and a 10k both awesome and work EVERY time I need them. Even if it hasn't been touched for a year. Ive seen smitty built and others not work when you need em most. Ive abused my winches and they still work awesome! An m8000 warn can be gotten in your price range if you shop around. You will be happy you did.
