Default Test TPS

Hi, could i test a TPS with a 5v source? TPS is only a variable resistor with out on the middle? I have a TPS that i want to test before i put it in my car.

Unplug yours plug in the new one start the jeep and turn the piece in the middle should try to idle up and probably bog down a little because lack of air that's how i checked mine

I guess you could feed the TP sensor a 5v ref and ground and measure it. Kind of like what was said above, it would be easier to plug it into the vehicle harness to test it. The center terminal is the output reading to the PCM, it should read between .2-4.8v, never 0 or 5v. Installing the TP sensor is pretty quick and easy to do and its easier to slowly open/shut the throttle to test the voltage sweep.
