Forget the dipstick. Put 6 quarts in it,that is what it takes period. Scribe a new full mark on dipstick.

Wow. Um ok. I've always put 6.5qts with my oversized filter and its dead on all the time. Wierd that a 4.0 need under the recommended 6qts

I've never put a drop more than 6 quarts in mine, I also don't understand how a dipstick could be read wrong?

I do 6.5 cause the over sized napa/Purolator/wix filters I use.

I doubt the 51515 holds more than an extra 1/4 qt. Maybe the Purolator does.

And could O.P.s vehicle have the wrong dipstick?

I have always had a bit of a problem reading my dip stick after a oil change,it always seems to read way over full but after I drive it for a bit and let it sit over night I can check it cold and its a hair before the max full mark(6qts is perfect) all stock stuff.

Hey, guys, let's not worry about the small stuff. 6 qts is the factory refill capacity and a little above or below won't hurt anything. More than 1 qt low will tend to not allow sufficient cooling time in the pan and more than 2 qts above will cause crankshaft windage to foam the oil. Anything in between is fine.

The 51515 is double the size of a regular filter. Damn thing holds some good oil

Very good question. Oversized filter provides a larger filtering medium. Has been a know trick for Cherokees for years now

Yeah, the old Ford and GM truck filters held a solid quart.

Just about any filter with a 3/4-16 thread will fit a jeep. The big thing is it needs to have an anti-drainback valve under the inlet. (small holes near the outside)
