Timing issues
I am new to trying to receive help in this manner so please bear with me as I try to figure this all out. I have a 2000 grand cherokee with the 4.7. I bought it with the engine out and decided it would be a good project for me. The bottom end was never touched but I put new timing chains and gears in it. My problem lies there. I put the bottom gear at 6 the idler at 12 along with both cams. The shop manual says that when the harmonic balancer is on the TDC mark both cams should be either at 12 or 6. Mine are at 2. There is no way to move the bottom gear since there is a key so what do I do? I don't want to bend a valve. Please help. Thank you

Welcome to CF!
It sounds like the cam idler gear is out of time with the crankshaft gear, or you didn't have the crank at TDC before installing the cams.
The Haynes Repair Manual has 2 complete pages on how to install the timing gears and chains. I got about 1/2 way thru them and gave up. Your turn!
You're right about not bending valves. Getting the timing right is very critical. If I was doing it, I'd probably go to the trouble of removing the rockers, then turning the crank thru a couple of revolutions checking the timing marks to make sure everything is right, then pulling the cams out one at a time and installing the rockers.
