I am pretty sure Jeep used RTV as a standard. I have no idea what your XJ has now for a gasket however. When I had automatics I found it best to skip the gasket and use Permatex 81180 Automatic Transmission RTV Sealant.

Mopar MAKES a reusable gasket, but you have to buy it from a dealer. It costs a lot, but mine has been on for 3 fluid changes and doesn't leak yet. Don't use any sealer on it.
I personally don't like using RTV because small pieces can get into the valve body. On paper gaskets, I use Permatex Spray-a-Gasket on the gasket itself only. I don't like cork for anything.

Well worth the money for an OEM reusable gasket. Best 25 bucks you can spend to keep the pan from leaking. Dorman makes a pan with a drain plug if you're really wanting to simplify transmission services.
