ATF+4 brand doesn't matter.

Yep. If it's ATF+4 it meets the spec. WalMart brand is probably the cheapest, and it's just as good as any other ATF+4.

XJs take Dex/Merc, NOT ATF+4.

If it's this stuff then no, you need atf+4 rated fluid.

Max Life is a whole family of products made for older vehicles. You have to look at what KIND of Max Life it is. There is Max Life engine oil, too.

As far as Valvoline goes, Max Life is just a marketing tool designed for vehicles with over 100K on them. I worked for Ashland Oil at one time. You have to know exactly what fluid your vehicle is supposed to take.

I better flush it soon. I saw a video of a few guys flushing a ZJ on youtube, but of course now I cant find it. The PO had 2 Bottles of MAXLIFE in the ZJ when I bought it. I put one in to get the Fluid up to Level .So I better Drain and Flush it ASAP .I will install a new Filter too.I just read on the Dip stick it says to use Mopar 7176 or DexronII

I am asking because I do not know. I just saw on my dipstick that it said to use those types of Fluid. For all that I know is from 97 to now things have Changed and now I should use ATF+4. I do not have a Manual for this ZJ so that is why I am Asking.

Okay, I"ll try one more time.

MaxLife is NOT a type of fluid. There are MANY types of fluid that carry the MaxLIfe name, and yes, they are all in the red bottle. As far as I can tell, there is no MaxLife version of ATF4.

Before you can know what kind of fluid you need, you need to know what kind of transmission you have. If it's the 42RE, you want ATF+4.

Just use WalMart ATF+4 and you are good to go.

If you want to use Valvoline, use this.
