Transmission type and or model?
Hey guys,
Can anyone tell me how to go about figuring out what transmission is in my jeep?
I have a 97 grand Cherokee 4.0 4x4.
my 4x4 shifter has. Part time 4x4, high 4x4 and low 4x4.
I looking to make sure I swap the correct one.
thanks

The transfer case is a separate unit. If you don't have a 2wd selection, you have the NP249 full time transfer case. If you DO have a 2wd selection, you have the NP242 t/case. The 242 is much prefered because it has much less problems.
People say the 42re is a weak transmission, but I got 250K miles out of mine because I don't drive it like I stole it!
