Sorry for this post, but it's regarding my two previous threads people tried helping me with. One about having no sound and the other about lights not working.

Here's the video... please also note I MADE A MISTAKE IN VIDEO... *the headlights DO work and the brights as well*, just the rear lights don't work. Reverse lights work, 4-way/hazards work, but no rear lights and no markers/dims working on driver console.

The aftermarket deck is hooked up to the dimmer circuit, now the fuse for the running lights and instrument panel light is blown. There is another fuse panel on the passenger side of the dash, just open the door and you'll see the cover. Your Jeep may have had the Infinity sound system that had a factory amp, those systems are kind of a pain to change over to an aftermarket system. You have to pull the center stack section off and check the wiring to the new head unit just to see whats going on there. There are a few screws at the top and I think there may be two more behind the ashtray. The dash on the 93-95 Grand Cherokee is one of the most difficult to take apart, it's kind of like a Rubik's Cube. Did you install the stereo, or was it like that when you bought the Jeep?

I have the same exact Grand Cherokee, but not as clean as yours, time for a good wash once it stops raining.

You caught me on my last email check. Yeah, it came with that stereo system, amp and everything else. Even the front grill/bumper and fog lights. I haven't installed anything... yet. That dash is a real pain. I can't figure out how to take the left side off (drivers side) to get to the light switch or expose more wiring. Gonna have to re-read everything you wrote once I wake up. Plan on working on the truck all day when the sun rises.

Same Jeep... nice. Gotta love it. Yeah, I washed mine the morning after I bought it the night before. Just used good ol' water and dish soap in a bucket. Then vacuumed everything (was already clean inside) and windexed the windows. I'm suprised how well maintained the Jeep is for its age and only for $1700 (I talked the dealer down from $2900).

I was thinking about how the stereo is wired to the amp that is mounted on the back of the seat. I think the speaker wire you have there is going to the amp from the head unit, but there is no speaker wire actually going to the speakers. Take a look at where the speaker wire (pink wiring) goes into the amp, if it says "input" on the amp, then that is the case, no speakers are hooked up.
Now to pull the left side of the dash apart you have to remove the upper dash pad to get to some of the screws. The dash pad is made from styrofoam, and is held on with velcro and screws. It is very fragile after years of cooking in the sun, I would not mess with it because I don't think you have a switch problem. I think the stereo is wired wrong and blowing the fuse for the marker and instrument lights.

I checked the fuse box. All the fuses are in there but nothing in number 6 or 25. I'm also not finding any input label on the amp. Gonna search online and see what I can dig up. But all orphaces have wires in them. The amp is a Rockford Fosqale "Punch" 200.4. The stereo is a Premier Mosfet 50wx4 XM

The amp should have a red battery constant wire, black ground wire, and a blue remote turn on wire that comes from the head unit. In most cases there are RCA cables that come from the head unit and plug into the amp's right and left channel inputs.

Ok. I'll have to take a look when I'm done eating. It's probably underneath all that black electric tape.

Going down to a place called STS Tire shop to get a free estimate and report on what, if anything, including leaks, is wrong with my Jeep. Will be back!

UPDATE -- what the repair shop found wrong on their free diagnosis:

- TIRE ROTATION / Oil pan gasket leak
- WHEEL BALANCE / Trans gasket leak
- TIRE PROTECTION / Rear main seal leak
- STATE INSPECTION / Fluid leak, overall conditions, ABS light on, Exhaust leak, Hood release broken, "Posassie" leak from oil filter housing/sending unit, tires show heavy feathering, 30 x 9.5/15 rear differential/front + transfer leaking, spark plugs need tune-up, wires

What do you all think? He says it would cost at least $2500 to fix everything, including new tires.

He also said the tail lights (rears) don't work and that it's common for Jeeps. He says to replace the entire bulbs and that it should fix it. Says it's not the wiring or switch, just replace lights. And he couldn't test the engine compression until all that is fixed. So he's not sure if engine is functioning properly. Can I fix this most of this by myself as a newbie?

I'm looking forward to getting this bad mother !@#$ucking jeep in great condition to show it off on the road!

P.S. What's funny is that on the jeep window when it was up for sale, it said new tires lol

Too bad you're in New Jersey, I would help you fix everything and diagnose the light problem. I'm pretty sure it's not the bulbs, but it would not hurt to replace them anyway. I still think the lighting problem has something to do with the stereo, it is a common problem to have no marker lights after installing a new aftermarket stereo because of just one wire hooked up wrong.
Most of what they recomend is pretty simple stuff to fix with the proper tools and a manual.

Haha, funny you say you'd help. I've been planning on driving out to California to move there and start college... Reseda/Woodland Hills/West Hills (San Fernando Valley) area... within the next month. But in its current condition, I don't know if it would make it. Possibly. I'd have to replace fluids to get there.

I'm off to the gym right now to do some bent rows, deadlifts and squats. Will be back to do more research on the wiring as you recommend.

I have an 01 GC and after I installed my aftermarket radio, I had the same exact problem with the lights. I had head lights, but nothing else. I rewired the Dimmer circuit just as Bustedback said and replaced the fuse, and that was that, it was fixed.

I get paid tonight at midnight, so tomorrow, after I register my vehicle at the DMV/MVC and get plates issued, I'll stop by AutoZone and get a new fuse then get to work. So you're telling me the previous owner/s installed this stereo system and blew the fuse to the markers/dimmers?

Oh dear lord. That is a big mess. I would never install a system like that. It's just too unorganized. They didn't even use zip ties lol. Now on to the stereo. I looked around online and found you a wiring diagram for your Premier Head unit. If you can not find the problem and it still does not work what I would honestly do is rewire all the speakers. I mean, if you are not looking to have that extra bang and all you want is your speakers to work, I would just buy 4 new speakers from walmart or autozone and then rewire everything and drag them down under the carpet going straight to the head unit. You might have a defective amplifier. Just to let you know, that amp is well as 7 years old. I had it in my dad's old grand marquis. I think that amp is just dead.

You think the amp is dead? Hmm.. probably. The car salesman said it works great. So maybe it worked for him then died. But then again, he also said the tires were new but started to feather, lol.

I just got back from a long day at the DMV and Sears/AutoZone. Got a new Craftsman hydraulic jack, drip pan, 10w30 Carquest non-synthetic oil (guy at shop said sythentic oil won't matter with 140K miles), and a new fuel filter.

I will first thing tomorrow attempt to fix the sound system. Again, thanks for the illustration and information. I hope to god the amp/speakers aren't blown out or anything. If I find out they are, I'm going to be pissed and probably cuss out the salesman.
