U-joint installation woes...
u-joint question. do you typically need to apply pressure to both caps (opposite caps in the same yoke) at the same time to be able to seat the clips? I busted a cap last night, got the c-clip in one, then went to press in the other one and the end cap let loose. I was hoping that the c-clip would hold in place and that the rubber gaskets would compress enough to get the clip in the other side.
thanks.
thanks.

yup, i use a vise to compress both caps in the yoke at the same time.
then i use my u-joint press to push the cap that little bit further to get the clips on.
if yours isn't letting you get it compressed enough, you may have a fallen bearing laying across the cap that in not letting you get it that little bit further.
you may have to pull it all apart to set that bearing back in it's place.
i've even had to take a hammer and punch and knock the ears back apart, maybe that's not letting you get the clip in.
when you pulled the caps, did you file the faces of the yoke ears down to get rid of any burrs? i always have to do that to mine. just a thought.
and use lots of grease.
