Default VIC and Radio issues

95 GC Limited

Issue came with vehicle so not sure when or how issues came about.

The VIC does not work, replaced with another (came with vehicle) and it does not work either. Fuses are good. No idea how to trouble shoot the issue. Aware that issue could be another defective VIC; back to square one, how to troubleshoot?

The radio does not work. I can hear the antenna raise and lower when I turn It on or off. Nothing lights up on the display. CD player loads and ejects discs. No sound. Radio illuminates with dash lights. fuses good.

Anyone else have these issues?

So I pulled the radio, removed top cover and decided to run some resistance tests. I tested the following pins against the ground with the following results:
BAT - OL
ACC - 3.11
ILL - 6.92
PARK - OL
RF - 8.44
LF - 7.93
MUTE - 17.28

I’m really out of my element here with electronics but guessing the battery circuit is broken causing the radio not to play.

This reply shows the radio connector wiring. Measure the voltage on gray pin 6 + 7 to ground. Pin 7 should be 12VDC, pin 6 should be 12VDC when ignition is on.

The antenna up/down indicates black pin 1 is working.

This reply shows my attempt at VIC repair. It improved the issues, but I eventually swapped to an alternate eBay part.

When you resolder the VIC, you should add a little flux to each solder joint. When I redid mine, just remelting each joint wasn't enough for the larger joints. It took about 2 hours to go through all of them, but it works now. Try swapping the radio out with a known good radio. It'll narrow down whether it's the headunit or your speakers.
