Yo guys!
Long time reader and this forum has helped me solve countless issues over the years! I currently have a 1998 Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 42re 242 combo. Its right at 160K. It has since developed what sounds to be a nasty knock. I have done everything from moving injector wires around, taking the valve cover off and checking rocker torque, ran it without the belt off and a few other small things. It has no other symptoms other than the actual knocking sound. No CEL, oil pressure looks normal, makes its usual lack luster power. Nothing strange but the knock. The knocking is however very loud on cold start then for about 1-2 seconds then its perfect... until it warms up and slowly starts to knock again. I am really thinking its the lifter but thats more a gut feeling then anything else. My plan as of now was to put a timing light on it and check the fly wheel next. Other than those things I am unsure where to go next. Any help would be really appreciated. I am open to the idea I will need to pull the engine for something major. I just want to get some other ideas before I do.

Check the catalyric converter, mine was knocking there is two sections inside the cat canister, the rear had broken up and was knocking,
