I wonder what it is? I see what you are trying to say now.. It does not seem normal. I am interested to know what you find out, and if you are able to find a solution? I will probably try to do some looking into this issue myself, as I am curious. If I find the essential nature, or any substance on the matter I will let you know.

I know what you're saying. I've gotten into the habbit of manually shifting with the gear selector lever. I do this when accelerating, entering onto a motorway road when on the entrance ramp. I like to take the 2nd and 3rd gears all the way up to about 3,000 rpm. The system doesn't allow for this if only staying in the 'D' gear on the selector level. Drop it into the overdrive gear once up to speed.

I've never really taken the time to learn much specifically about transmissions, and what all is happening to make them operate correctly. They're confusing to me.

Your post has made me want to start learning about them. I've tried looking up information now, and it is a little overwhelming. There is a lot happening here! There are soo many inputs coming at transmissions from everywhere... It has its own complicated computer system that coordinates inputs from all these different sensors. The transmission control module TCM and the vehicle computer PCM pair up to manage everything. Then, there is the mechanical nature of the transmission and its parts to take into consideration for proper operation too. I would like to get a better understanding of it all...

I never heard you say if you have been able to hook up at minimum an OBDII scanner, or checked for any codes? I did find out that just like the PCM does, the TCM also supplies codes, seperate from the PCM when things are not right. Some vehicles allow you to look for these TCM codes similarly to how you check for codes from the PCM with the key on/off method. The TCM is programmed to display codes through the OD overdrive light by way of successively blinking so many times etc..on some vehicles.

A P0700 is a generic PCM code telling you that you need to read the tranny codes (if you were to see that code). The code reader (OBDII) at autozone is able to display this code, but you will need a DRB3 reader to find out the actual code(s) coming from the TCM...
