Maybe just replace both sensors just be safe. Those sensors live in a harsh environment and are almost a consumable part to replace.

I might do that eventually. I don't want to do to many things at once. I'd like to really figure out where the problem is first. In case it returns then i'll know right where to go. It idled for an hour in the drive way without stopping yesterday. Today I am going to start it and let it idle for several hours to see what happens. I'll report back, but thanks to everybody for their input so far.

Yesterday it idled for 10 minutes and shut off. I restarted it and then it shut down in 4 minutes. Then it ran for 45 minutes before it shut down. So I have 2 days of "idle tests' , with a pattern. . I hear its tough to do, but today I am going to change the camshaft position sensor. If I am successful, I'll try the idle test again and see what happens.

Changing the cam sensor was difficult but not impossible. Hard to see what your doing. It took me a long time to even find it. No change. It still shuts off after idling for various periods of time. Discouraging to say the least.

He can't drive with the hood up. LOL. Putting the engine under a load, like driving, will get it up to temperature faster and simulate and actually drive cycle. Letting it just idle may not allow the engine bay to get hot enough to cause the issue.

Starts right up. Idles perfectly. Then shuts down. There is nothing to make me think it's heat related. I did at first. That was pure speculation. I think I'am throwing in the towel. Found yet a second mechanic that said he could run some tests to see what it may be. It's gonna be tough getting it to him though. As long as it continues to start, I can limp it over to him. I hate it when a vehicle dies at an intersection or in traffic.

Well I am giving up. I am more easily intimidated at this point. Its been a week and there are to many variables for me at this point. I am having it towed to another mechanic this morning. I'll check back and let you know what they come up with. Thanks to all who took the time to help me out.
