Default What oil to use?

Grand Cherokee 1993 AW4 (Aisin-warner).

Transmission = Dexron III
Transfer case (NP249J) = ??
Front Axel = Castrol SAF-XJ (SAE 75W-140)
Rear Axel (limited slip) = Castrol SAF-XJ (SAE 75W-140) with something? or do i need 15W-140?

Could the transfer case use Comma AQF ( ESP-M2C-33F/G ) i have 5L since the shop where i bougth it was sure that i could use it in my transmission, but i used Castrol Dexron III insted since the 1993 dont use same as 1994 and up.

ATF+4 is the standard fill for both the transmission and transfer case. I know the dipstick that came on the tranny states Dexron, but in the late 90's Chrysler issued a TSB stating the dipsticks were printed wrong. The fluids for your axles are correct. You are going to need to add 2.5-3 oz of Friction Modifier for the rear axle w/ LSD.

You don't have the aisin warner transmission,you have the 46RH. Ya use only ATF +4, t-case can use ATF or gear oil its just a matter of preference. Gear oil is better for it, but it also has to be changed more often.

He has the 4.0 If he had an early 93, it's very possible he does have an AW4.

And yes your transmission DOES use ATF +4!!! 93 is not different from any later year, for the aisin warner trans that is correct but not for the 46RH that you have. I know you probably googled it to find out what trans you have and that's what you found,but you stated that you have the np249 t-case which leads me to believe you have the V8 correct? Trust me I have had three 1993 zj's all with V8's, the first two I had the trannys went out, so I called the local tranny shops to see what tranny I had then I googled it yada yada yada. Finally I pulled the trans only to find out it was a 46RH. Went to the junkyard and pulled one out of a 95 zj and what do ya know,exact same tranny. I went through this twice and they were both 46RH contrary to what I was told by transmission shops. You will notice a big difference in how hard it shifts by switching from dextron to ATF+.

1993 has Aisin Warner. This is why almost everybody tells me to use wrong oil since they dont know that 1993 was the only year the GC 4.0L I6 came with Aisin Warner transmission. If i use ATF+4 then i will f**k up my transmission, correct? But could i use Dexronn III on the TC?

AW-4 (Used in XJ Jeep Cherokee and early ZJ Grand Cherokee) 4-speed longitudinal

Mopar Mercon is the recommended fluid for the AW-4 or Dexron II if the Mercon is not readily available.

Mopar Dexron II or ATF plus Type 7176 are the recommended fluids for the NP249 TC.
