WJ 4.0 Transmission Speed Sensor
So this is an odd one. I got under the jeep today to look at the speed sensor on the wj because its been throwing a check engine light, and some pretty late shifting. However when I got a look at it, it wasn't there, and Im not talking it broke off on something, or it wasn't in the location I was expecting (in the overdrive section on the drivers side). There was a plug in its place, a white plastic plug no pig tail no nothing. So no I have a jeep that gets angry at me anytime I want to go faster than 35 and I don't know how to fix it. I didn't see a pig tail like I said, I also checked the T-case like the ZJ but to no surprise the sensor wasn't in the T-case. Has anyone seen something like this? am I going crazy over this?

If for some reason you have the 45RFE, it's different, but I thought all 4.0s had the 42RE. IDK anything about the 45RFE except there are 2 sensors.

As far as I know its a 42RE, it looks like one and acts like one, it must be a duck. Humor me, if it was a 5 speed in a 4 speeds clothing, even though it's a 4.0 what should be done? I'm completely lost. Tranys are greek to me.

ASAIK the speed sensor is a plastic screw-in sensor with an o-ring seal installed in the overdrive section that reads the notches in the parking lock wheel. It should be right where you're looking for it. Rockauto shows this sensor for the 2003 with the 42re. IDK what else to tell you. The 42re only has the one sensor.
