WJ Homemade coil spring retainers write-up
Hey guys, thought I would share what a buddy and I did to his WJ after we had a coil fall out on the trail and never wanted to deal with that again!
Specs: '04 WJ, 3" IRO lift, swaybar disconnects in front deleted rear swaybar, 32" MT's.
We cut bumpstops out of the front of an XJ I had for parts and welded them to the top spring perch on his WJ, then we bent some tab retainers out of 1/8" x 1" or so steel drilled holes and bolted them onto the lower coil bucket.
This is on the WJ front, we still havent done anything on the rear, and havent lost a coil out of the rear yet. (fingers crossed)
Here is a few pics:
Coil out and cleaning up the top perch for welding
Welding on the XJ bumpstop sleeve (yes I know, our welds arent pretty)
Passenger side in, you can see the lower tab bolted on and the upper bump welded in. We cut the bumpstop sleeves to the length we wanted our flex to be limited at. That will obviously vary will other peoples rigs.
Drivers side in, once again you can see the lower tab and the upper bump.
I hope this helps some of you guys trying to figure out how to keep those coils in place!
