WJ towing Q....
I didn't think this belonged in non-mod GC technical forum, and there's no GC-specific chat forum, so I assume this one is for all Cherokee-esque technically non-technical stuff, so here goes.
I just took a look at the options section of the build sheet for my 99 GC 4.7, and I noted some fun stuff. 44 rear end, 3.73 gears (non-lsd, sad!), aux tranny cooler. Yet no trailer harness and no factory hitch. Well, wouldn't ya know it, but a PO put in a low-hanging hitch and an aftermarket harness. So it seems that some person felt it was more economical to option-up on all but two items on the list for the tow package, but apparently was too cheap to get the tow package itself.
Does anyone remember what that add-on even ran as far as cost? Did it make sense to option up 3/4 of the package and then finish it aftermarket?

Old fart with a wrench
It's entirely possible the PO did that intentionally because he planned on adding a class IV hitch and electric brakes. The factory harness is only for lighting. (Wow! I had to burn my brain for that one!)

The lsd's came in my 04 "Overland" and had a towing pkg. with Class IV hitch along with the "Up Country pkg." with 3.73 GR. As far as cost I have no idea would need to see the dealer order forum for that info in 1999.
He also may have just wanted the deeper gear for better performance of the 4.7 so a gear change would do that for sure.
