Yeah! It almost starts before you hear the click! The 2000 XJ I just recently bought has a new Mopar starter in it too. That one only has 132K on it. That was the last thing the PO did before he sold it to me. What it needed was a battery. AND tires, brakes, and a little frame welding.

The worst part is all they probably needed was new brushes and an armature cleaning. Maybe new bearings while you're in there. There's a local auto electrical shop near me that does just that, but I needed it right now!

Mine's a long story that I won't detail, but I needed my starter now.. too!

Working on mine after it went out.. I got the battery replaced, and when I came back from the store with a new starter in my hand, I saw that my Jeep was missing. A guy comes up to me from a store saying that he had my Jeep towed away, and he gives me an address to a towyard in town. The towyard guy was unhooking it in the towyard. It was now getting to be dark outside. The tow guy held a flashlight for me while I worked on it in the towyard to replace the starter. I got it changed and my Jeep started. I was on my way...

Did you have to pay for the tow? You shouldn't have had to if it wasn't in the way where it was. Freaking people....

No. I did not have to pay. The tow-guy was super cool dude! He said to me that he goes up and down the street off from where it was towed away from all day.. and that he did not remember ever seeing mine parked there overnight, or any nights. I told him that was because it had only been parked where it was for maybe half-a-day at best. I left it parked there in the morning, and jumped in a buddys truck so that I could be at work and working. Throughout the day, we went back to try and fix it, to get it started. In the evening was when we had a chance to go at it. We changed battery. Went right to Advance Auto after that did not work.. We were very sure it was the starter at this point. It wasn't barely 10-15 minutes later when we got back and we found it was missing... It was a pizza place shop owner. He had this $ht-eatin grin on his face when he was telling me about how he had it towed away... I believe that this guy had some baneful nerve. He knew I was trying and working on getting it going! He was a dork and not the good kind.. I don't know why, but maybe because each morning when we would meet up at the County Annex, all 100 or so of us the people I was working with back then, we would meet, and sometimes when there was no parking spaces, we would park in the plaza lot near his store. Only for like 20 minutes total though, and then all of everybody would give him business too for months by going to eat his pizza every day a lot of the days. It was really good pizza!

Got him.. ! .. The people I work with are an interesting bunch, and everyone wound up hearing about what he had done to me. And that was like doing it to all of us... Then, the truckers and their groundsman heard about it too. I will not go into great detail, but lets just say that these guys could really of cared less about possibly getting into a little trouble and me neither... Maybe somebody (now this is a little gross).. Somebody may have taken a ladle. Went to a port-a-let porta potty. Scooped up some REAL good nastiness putting the nastiness into a 5-gal bucket. They might have taken this nastiness over to the pizza owners business... AND yuck! Maybe also, for the remainder of the time we were there working, each morning.. and each evening.. when the pizza place was opening, or when after it was closed down.. There would be a large amount of generally nasty trash littered all over his storefront.. Smeared lugeez and whatnot, soda, any sticky substance all over covering this storefronts glass.... IDK? Maybe that happened.... 🙂 A-hole!

What I was saying first though.. The tow-guys business owner told him if I could get it fixed, not to worry about it, and let me go freely. The owner said if I didn't get it fixed, I would have to be charged. Possibly costing me a lot depending on if I left it vs having it towed somewhere vs coming back to try and fix it again later etc... It all worked out.

Pizza guy lost some business.. At least most of the peoples' whom I worked with.. Who knows? Maybe a few other locals' busines too, after seeing his disgusting storefront all of the time! Two wrongs do not make a right and all I know.. But every once in awhile $ht just happens! Sometimes, it apparently happens, literally, to a pizza place storefront...
