Default 2002 Subaru WRX

well hello everyone. bored at work so figured id show the progress of my subaru since i got it. i bought it on Dec 20th 2011 and today is March 12th 2012. so heres the story. before that i had a 95 xj(view threads started by me to see my build thread), and a 93 240sx. i sold both of those vehicles to members on here. not sure how the 240 is doing but the jeep is retired since her frame got alittle bent. so bought something that i thought would be reliable, better on gas, AWD for rain and snow, turbocharged so i can waste gas and have to buy premiuim, and something i thought would be a fun car that i can take out in the snow and drive around, make it look how i want it, and just cruise with. so heres some stock pics. when i bought it i told myself i wouldnt mod it until i paid it off..that lasted less then a day. bought a injen intake and my cousin gave me a turbo xs blow off valve. pics!!

some have like a black or silver trim inside but i was lucky enough to get carbon fiber

she has like 75k on her now, oil has been changed once. like in the first few days i got it.

heres pics of intake and blow off valve

and heres a pic of the code i thought i got from the BOV

if you have a subaru and get that code(i thought it was the BOv because it vents into the atmosphere and thought it would throw that code) its not its actually a little blue T connector near the bottom left of the intercooler. just connect it then zip tie it so it wont blow off again and there ya go.

i took the BOV off because these cars need to be tuned for what it seems everytime you touch it. but the BOV makes it run alittle richer and gives you nothing other then the blow off sound when releasing the pressure from the turbo when taking your foot off the accelerator. so didnt really need it besides sound so i took it off.

the intake makes it run alittle leaner because its getting more air now than fuel and should be tuned, so i took that off also and sold it for what i purchased it for. still have the bov laying around in garage. for when i go to get it tuned. then ill also buy a new intake..again lol.

so ive had a blue T connector code(pic shown above,) a cyclinder 3 misfire that went away when i put a can of fuel injector cleaner in it, and a front 02 sensor code. every time i go over 100 mph it gives me that code. ill get it fixed eventually, but keeps me going slow
these cars have 2 02 sensors. the front on the headers(like most cars) and a rear 02 sensor going on the downpipe of exhaust.

wanted to post so that way if computer screwed up would lose all that i just did.

soooo subies first pic XD

front lip and grill that got painted

painted rims black and tinted fog lights amberrrr

then gf got me mudflaps for valentines dayyy

got sideskirts, front lip, grill and eyelids painted for 500$. a regular shop wanted over a grand which i thought was ridiculous

thennn windows tinted. front strip 5%, front windows 20%, rear windows 15% and rear window 20%.

then sat march 10th 2012 i lowered it on coilovers. my rims should be here tomorrow then i will adjust them to good fit then get the car aligned. ill post more pics when i get my rims and everything on. also going to try to do all around brakes tomrrow and see how that goes :/ theyre grinding horribly and needed new brakes when i got it.

so heres pics of how it sits today. and hopefully tomorrow itll have new rims, alignment and brakes.

future plans are new shocks with lowering springs, cuz its too low now for being my DD and rides horrible..but looks cool lol. then just catback exhaust. borla hush so i get a little rumble but cant have a loud car anymore, intake, bov, sti topmount intercooler, alum radiator and hoses, accessport then get her tuned and that should be it..for now. thanks for looking

I have never owned a subaru but almost bought one and did months off research on them. Get the accessport first. Even if everything else is stock it has an OTS map already on there for stock subarus along with a valet, eco, stage 1, stage 2 and i think a stage 2 or 1+ map. The best thing to do for power and the most common/safe is to go stage 1 and then stage 2. If you get an AEM Intake you dont have to get it retuned(95% sure its the only intake the accessport supports with a map) just put it on stage 1 on your accessport. Honestly the accessport is the god of subaru tuners. You can run codes, see gauges(boost, shift light etc... do performance timing (est hp, 0-60 1/4 mile) also you dont need the sti intercooler/bov(which would hurt your car if anything). If your doing it for the cool sound then go ahead but if you dont do that and are just staying with the Exhaust(which btw you would barely see any hp gains with just a catback, should just go with a turboback if your budget allows and you can be stage 2) you wouldnt need to get it retuned if you didnt get the BOV. Its built to be recirculated not vented. If you ever youtube "stage 2 wrx" there all with the turboback and an intake. Also dont do any hard launches with that 5 speed becuase its glass. If you ever want to push the transmission, you have to build that one with PPG Gears/other company I forgot, or swap it in for a STi 6-Speed. Not trying to criticize i just want to help out. If you have any questions just message me and ill be more than happy to help, Rob

yep just made a quick write up of everything. got new wheels and suspension. and u are correct about the AP. it will work with an AEM intake or a Cobb one. i have the bov off car now because dont need it. only had it one for like the first few days i owned the car. doesnt do anything for performance and makes it run alittle richer and the stock recirc valve is fine. i took off the intake silencer so u can hear the spool and recirc better. i was going to go with a catback and a catted down pipe just because cant have a loud car where i live now. but when i move id get everything after the downpipe catless. and i know not to launch it because the 02-03 trans are so weak. shes got 76k on her now so not sure when itll die but just waiting then going to rebuild it most likely because another used one will be just as weak. but have never launched it and most likely never will. i will put out in first then accelerate hard on first and throughout the gears but not putting all that stress on it by launching it. right now the car is pretty much finished until i pay it off and have extra money to throw into it. so might skip the catback and do turboback..who knows. just so expensive for everything so just trying to pay it off. selling my gsxr today after work and that money is going into the car payment. would like another jeep but thinking i should wait and get life started lol. but thanks for the info.any other reccomendations?

Not to be a dick....but for all the money you've wasted on making it look "cool", you couldve bought some sweet wheels/tires and bolt on to actually make it go fast.

Also, ditch the AP...if you have a laptop buy a $100 Tactrix cable and tune it opensource. The maps on the Accessport are a joke. Seriously.

I have some base maps i could send you that will make way more power and be way smoother than the off the shelf Cobb AP stuff.

Just sayin

That's just how I wanted to build it right now. I bought new wheels for it and new suspension because I didn't like those coilovers. Still doin research on what I want for tuning so haven't gotten it done yet, as well as performance parts. Just for right now wanted something that makes me smile when I walk out to it. Very one builds different. Some performance first. Some exterior and visuals. I'll get to performance but doing more research first.

LOVE the 02. It's my favorite year of all the Rex's. The bug eyes and smaller scoop are sweet. I have like 3 friends here that all totaled them. People think they have no limitations but they definetly do. Bada$$ car though!

+1 on the tactrix cable, also once you get to headers, make sure to get a spacer for the rear o2 sensor, it will throw P0420 (if i remember correctly) all day, every day. Also stromung exhaust ftw
