6.2 diesel no compression #7
So my tow rig I'm restoring had zero compression on #7 piston... it just turned 100k 2 weeks ago... It had a hard start issues with the previous owner and he told me he used ether... which on these old diesels is a no no and everyone knows it because of the big *** sticker saying don't do it!!
Generally it's rings correct?? Could I just pull it... flip it... and replace the rings and go with that?? It's hardly broke in so I'd hate to rebuild the whole dang thing... well given that half my piston isn't melted away...

I know this is an old thread but DAMN that sucks dude. What would possess someone to shoot ether into a glow plug engine is beyond me.
You get that figured out? Yeah it could be rings. That crap can potentially bend a rod.

I worked for a guy that had this exact same issue. something to the effect of the glow plug breaking off and breaking the piston. we ended up having to source a head, piston, rings, and bearing for that cyl. but it made A LOT of racket before it finally gave up.

Dang i missed salads reply some how... lol
I guess a update to this would be some things didn't add up so i bought a compression tester and it tested out just fine... I also did a test on the bottom end I read about... clear hose on the oil dipstick... run it into a bottle of water bout half way... water line stays even inside tube... Rev motor to 2k and if the motors good it'll create a vacuum and pull water roughly 2in above the water line... if a pistons blown or anything like that I believe it just does the opposite... anyways that tested great as well... I gotta order injecters now... ouch.... not as ouch as a motor though!!

whats the lowest compression heard of running in a 6.2. not worried about cold starts or street-ability. advanced timing, hot temp engine. run ***** out for 20 or 30 minutes tops? planning on an n/a engine also.
