any old school C10 guys also in here?
Just curious to see if anyone else here is into C10's like me.
Ive got an 81 C10 SWB(short wheel base) I am in the midst of restoring.
Right now plans for it are to first off get her back on the road! the 305 in it now is shot! but come tax season I will be transplanting either a 6.0 lq9 or a 5.3 ls into it with a 4l60e and a set of posi 3:73 gears.
going to probably do a little minor tweaks to the new motor and fix what needs fixing before putting it in. going to prolly go with an LS6 cam and lifter springs, 4.8 flat top pistons(the 4.8 Ls has the same bore as the 5.3) do a little porting on the heads, and Might go ahead and rebuild the heads and mill em down a bit to bump the compression up.
Shift kit in the trans, then I want to do a rear disc conversion using the Eldorado or impala disk brakes.
Also going to drop it between 3.5-4.5 up front and a flip kit in the rear(around 5 inches) and might run a baby C notch for clearance.
got a lot of work ahead of me but the truc still looks great, I am just **** retentive. and every things needs to be perfect. lol. going for a show truck in my head. but my pocket books says no! haha plus now this damn jeep...hell it will be a mirical if my wife dont leave me! lmao! cause with the both I sure as hell wont have money or time for her.
anyway, if you got em lets see em! I am a HUGE FAN of the 65-66 models. Which is what I originally started looking for, but got a hell of a deal on mine(900 bucks and drove it home!)
BTW here are some pictures. this is from last winter, got a new grill now, and I got a set of new doors, still need to put them on but waiting untill Im reaping to strip her down to paint to put them on.
with the new grill, and headlights before I put the silverstars in them.

here are the wheels when I bought the truck....clear coat was wearing off and the aluminum was pitted to hell!
hours and hours of sanding buy hand from 320 to 2000 grit in incraments...lol
to a mirror finish with an airway pad and various compounds.

had a bad freeze plug leak, which of course was behing the motor mount...as usual. so I decided screw it, pull and dress the engine up a bit. I had planned to drive the damn thing as is till she blew! or I got the Ls motor done! haha
here is what it looked like before.
As you can see its 31 years of grease, grime and neglect!
But with a good wife and daughter....lol
You can get it to look like this!

yeah that was back in june/july of this year. put a gasket set in it, replaces lots of little stuff which added up. got it back together and yup....lifter collapsed! I didnt replace the old lifters...used the same ones...and they collapsed or just never came back after being taken apart...so pretty much wasted a bunch of time and money getting her like that...but I dont want to sink another dime into her since come febuary I will be pulling that motor anyway... it was my daily driver, but since she went down, I got my Xj. which is nice because now I can take my time working on her and not have to rush to get it done by monday...lol
I say the lifters collapsed, that or the cam wiped a lobe...because its backfires like hell wont hole manifold vacuum pressure and stumbles on it face when put in gear to drive...cheaked for vacuum leaks and didnt find any...but again dont feel like throwing any more money into her untill its time for either a 6.0 or 5.3 to go inside that bay!

The C10's are nice, but I've always wanted an '87 K10 4wd with the fuel injection. Then with a 4-6 inch lift and 37 inch tires. Always been my dream truck haha

Im a huge square body fan, got an 81 thats been in various stages of project since I bought it 3-4 years back. Right now just got it running again after raplacing the head gaskets. Gotta get an exhaust put on it then hopefully get it all one color again after some douche decided inside my bed was a good place to park.

I have a 63 longbed stepside. It has the 235 and its a 4 speed. I've had it for 6 years and haven't got to touch it yet : ( cause I moved and have it stored in oregon. Its going to be my hot rod. thinking of a big block or building a 292 for it.

also 87 is kind of a headache year(like 80-81)....TBI injection just came about on em and is pretty crappy...
some of the blocks are just the 350 with the fuel pump rod housing blocked off, some dont even have fuel pump rod previsions...the TBI was mediocre at best, and they pretty much all had power window/locks which ALWAYs go bad! lol
my truck though as for the 4x4 version would be the 79 3/4 ton. with a granny 4 speed!
lifted about 10-12 inches with some 44's!

NICE! not to fond of the stepsides but love me some longs beds! BTW either its the picture, the bed is really rusted, or your body mounts are completely gone..or worse the frame is bent, but that bed is crooked!
Im hoping for your sake its the body mounts!
good looking truck though! wished I had a 66 short bed 2wd! or long bed..just want me a 66! lol
Also you should look into the LSX swap man! fuel injection, massive amounts of power at a lower or same as cost as a SBC or BBC build!!! for 3000 you could barely build a SBC or BBC thats worth talking about but you could swap a Ls series motor(ls1, ls2, Lq4 lq9, 5.3, aluminum 5.3) for 3000 for everything and have a dependable, and powerful motor! theres guys getting 500+ hp out of 5.3's all day with just a tune and some minor work. go here for more info LS1tech.com
