WE are why states now won't give licenses to kids until they are 18 and insurance is completely unaffordable for minors in the other states. Most of us were pretty damned good at it too... That 55 Chevy? That was my street car when I was 16. No one would run against it anymore so I sold it to build a different car I could race with again. lol
Can you imagine that? lol

Nope not even close to your era. I do wish I was around back then. My dad has told me stories from back when he first got license and when he would take his parents car to the gas station at 12 years old! Must have been good times.
My first car was a 70 Camaro. It was the fastest car at my school! I may or may not have done some street racing in it. Haha. Now that I look back at it, my dad was crazy for letting a 16 year old kid drive a 400 whp car.

You apparently didn't grow up in the era I did. We were very serious about street dragging at 16... 14 if we had a permit and a licensed driver over 18 with us. It wasn't illegal yet and the worst they could do was write a ticket for "exhibition of speed", a very minor offence that didn't even go against your license.

That's what I call a one purpose built vehicle. Nothing wrong with that either. Pretty much what I did but for a different use. I didn't build mine to be a DD and that guy didnt either! It's all about having fun.

very nice.... I've always had a love of the vintage VWs, especially bugs and the 410s and 411s even though you rarely see them anymore. Not for racing, but over the years, I've restored many of those to their former glory. Would own another one in a heartbeat if the deal was right. I can build those motor/trans with my eyes closed.

We did a lot of that too. Never had a Jeep but we had several home cut Baja Bugs and what we used to call Sand Buggys. Sand Buggys were old Plymouths and similar cut down with all the fenders removed and made light as possible. But honestly... The sand buggys were terrible in the sand and we spent more time pushing them out than enjoying them. lol

I forgot to add, I lived in the mountains, just a few miles from the top of the Rubicon. Wheeling was just part of life, along with skiing and fishing

Alright, moving on with the front splitter. Got some good progress done on it last night. First off, the splitter has arrived and looks to be the correct size and shape.
I got some bricks and threw them under the Bug to support the splitter for mock up.
After that, I drilled some holes and mounted the side extensions on.
The I slipped the splitter back under, centered it and then got 2 of the hinges mounted. Dont mind the gaps on the sides. Those will be gone when I put more supports in.
And yes, this is a functional splitter that can be adjusted up and down.
More to come once my adjusters/supports show up.
