Default Crank Sensor Broke at Bell Housing 1997 TJ

Trying to get this crank shaft sensor out resulted in a real mess. I got the bolt out, but the sensor would not turn or move out of the hole. Tried alcohol and PB Blaster to work the dirt out, no joy. Trying to knock what is left of the sensor into the bell housing is not working. Looking for ideas. Thanks.

Bolt or bolts?
I looked up to see what the part looks like and it looks similar, if not the same as my '00 XJ.
Which has 2 bolts.

Not the same as an XJ. It has only one bolt. the sensor fits very snug in the hole so it sets in the correct position. I am trying to get a screw down in what is left of the sensor, not looking good.

Maybe it just seized to the bell housing really good.
Might take some real force to pry it away.

There is nothing to pry on. It is broken off at the bellhousing.

Cruiser54 I need a hand with this one. Am I looking at dropping the transmission to get the broken sensor out?

Looks like there is a spacer or cover on the transmission. Can the cover be removed without separating the transmission from the engine? If so, will I be able to get to the bottom of the CPS in order to push it out?

Only one way to find out. Take the cover off and shine a light up there.

Thanks to everyone one who took a look or shared your thoughts. I was able to use a small chisel and chip out what was left of the sensor without dropping the transmission. My son is 6'-7", so he was able to get his monkey arm and hand far enough to easily clean up the hole for the sensor. Fortunately, the sensor fixed our no-start issue. I think we will be pulling this CPS out regularly to make sure it does not get seized in there again.

Glad it worked out for you.
I have seen some weirder, at least to me, problems here.
Yours definitely was right up there with them.
