Unloaded easy driving I have seen 7.3's hit 19 mpg. I would say any of them I would be scared of 350K plus miles and shy away. Now that being said, any "Ford" can have injector issues because of lack of oil maintenance. My advice, wait until as cold as possible, and when started listen for a skip, then get it as hot as possible and check for a skip, if it passes both and no noticeable smoke then injectors are probably ok. All of said engines are parent bore, and cannot rebuild it without boring the block. The strongest setup by design is an inline engine, no side loading of pistons etc. If you do go with a 7.3 a trick to help with oil and injector life is easy to do when changing oil so just PM me. Good luck, and congrats

why actually yes, Navistar has sent out a bulletin about it on oil change neglected trucks we have to do it before replacing the HPOP..... change the oil and filter and drain the resivoir and refill it. They have stated that on all oil neglected trucks it will help replenish fresh oil to new or used injectors and a new or used hpop... and if they will pay for it under warranty.........

I doubt there are any 7.3's under warranty. So your saying that changing roughly 1qt of oil out of about the 3qts that are left behind after a typical oil change is gonna make a difference? Fact is the in the HPOP reservoir is the same oil that runs the rest of the system, so being the fact it got left behind on this oil change it will get caught on the next change.
The best advice would be to do regular oil changes, skip the HPOP oil change and put in a bypass filter no matter which diesel you purchase.

I'd get rid of mine just to get the '06 lbz, but I'd want a straight transfer with little to no cash involved..
out here it seems they keep there value as you'll be hard pressed to find one under 20k, and if you do its been beat...
supply/demand and state in which you reside will play a big part on value..

All DT series engines still use HPOP / HEUI systems, and yes it's only a qt, but if they are not saying to change it under warranty, then there is some kind of validity to it, has to be for them to even consider paying for it. 3 qts do not get left behind in a light truck 7.3, maybe, and maybe it's 3 qts in an 8 gallon system, but a 7.3 is 15 qts in an oil change and about 16.5 completely dry.. Now you are saying the oil "circulates, ever had the valve voers off of one running and see how much oil it uses when it spits it out of the injectors? Its droplets, its high pressure, not volume, the oil up there doesnt get circulated much at all. Which is why you see injector stiction, the tiny little valve in the injector get worn or dirty causing a missfire. Hey what do I know though... I only work on the crap day in and day out for the last 16 yrs of my life

Yep you are right, the oil in the hpop never moves, and that is why they have no need for a high volume LPOP to feed the HPOP because it would never suck the HPOP reservoir dry being that two oil pumps are used to feed injectors that drip oil at about 4000psi.
But what do I know, I just sit at home all day and watch **** on the computer

Another interesting thing is the powerstorke is only considered a light duty diesel. Ford didnt even use them in the F650+ trucks but you could get the same cummins dodge used in the med duty ford trucks.

That would be a good truck if done right. One of the things I have mentioned before to people that say ford diesels are the best. How come people are putting cummins engines in ford trucks? How many dodge trucks do you see with swapped in powerstrokes?
