I am in Minnesota.
I've done alot of research the last few days, and decided I am going sell it or try to trade it for a TJ.
Anybody have a good TJ they want to trade for a classic CJ?

^^^^ Huh?
Personally i'd find another way of obtaining a more fuel efficient DD vs selling my fathers toy. Put it in storage and forget about it till your in a better position.
Find a cheap vehicle and run it.

Definitley sounds like you need to keep the 79 and throw it in storage or something if you can't drive it daily and buy you a cheep junker.
That CJ is sweet and not worth anything less than 7 - 8.

Keep the Cj/xj, You'll be the one trying to track it down in 10 years and it'll still be around and you'll be the one who can't afford to buy back your dads jeep.

DON"T SELL THE CJ/YJ you will NEVER forgive yourself for that one!!!!!!! That is one SWEET jeep and there is no way I would trade that for an XJ!!! I would also say that you should be able to get more than 7K for that CJ/YJ! I have looked hard for jeeps and that is usually where the price is ranging... at min for one in that kinda shape i would say 5K (unless you wanna sell it to me)

keep it
Whatever you do hang on to your dads jeep beside it being sweet as hell you will regret it later because no amount of money can replace what you have right there . Buy a $500 beater that gets better economy than the jeep for a daily driver and park the cj until times get better for you . Good luck on whatever choise you make because that choise will last longer than that XJ

I agree with everyone else.. That is not a fair trade by any means, MAYBE if the XJ hadnt been wrecked.. then MAYBE. If you want better fuel economy look in to fuel injection, either by adding to the current engine or swapping in a Chevy 350 or 4.0ltr. It wont be like a Honda but it would be in the mid to upper teens atleast.
If you choose to sell it, the market for CJs has always been good. They retain thier value quite well. I would say $6-7K would be reasonable.
