Hub bearing on wife's Explorer.

Hub bearing on wife's Explorer.
Drove the Explorer to Chicago (250 miles) for mom-in-laws funeral. I assume the hub is going, thought it was the tranny, but putting it in N has no change. Makes a noise we liken to a prop plane sometimes. Was doing it on deceleration and was fine on the way down. Son & I went out running errands and it seemed to do it all the time. Gonna head home (& come back) since the funeral is Thursday. Praying I can make it home & can repair it before I head back. Don't really want to do it in my in-law's drive with dad standing over me. Kind of need to repair this as it is the best vehicle. next is my daughters 175k Tempo. Thoughts on this?
Basically, what is the worst case senerio?

What year Exploder? 93 and older have regular tapered roller bearings that are repackable, 94 and newer use a unitized hub bearing like a Cherokee does.

Is the noise coming from the front or rear? It will be a bearing regardless, but if it's the rear, it's a lot more involved. The knuckle comes off and you need a mega press to change the bearing. I've done a few.

You better hope its the front and not rear, if it ends up being the rear you will want to get the bearing and hub because you will probably destroy it. The rears are terrible to replace, like stated above you will want a mega press with plenty of metal around to fab up a jig, plus a torch if needed for heat.
A lot of times you can swerve the vehicle to load/unload the bearing, kind of like doing a lane change. Most times the suspect bearing will get louder when swerving the opposite way due to weight transfer (RF bearing gets louder turning left). If noise sounded louder on decel, it may because of the same weight transfer loading the bearing more. .
