Default I am buying one this summer

My wife and I took the commader this past year to our anual camp trip to the Nrim of the Grand Canyon. I loved the ride and the power of the 5.9L. lots of room for the gear and the rear air for the dog was great.

With a 3" lift and great tires this is a great 4x4 rig with some mild upgrades(bumpers, roof rack, lights and lockers).

I attached a few pics of the rig on our trip.

4wheel adventure DVD did a complete build up of two of these one in mild and the other in extreme. excellent build up for their ultimate adventure.

There was also a great test drive with a race driver some time back and it also showed how well it works.

I liked it so much i am renting another one in a few months for a camp trip north to Bryce.

My mom has hers, and I've been able to drive it quite a bit. It handles really well, but I have to complain about driving in snow. It always locks up coming to stops and slides for some reason which is not good. Third row seats are useless for anyone over age 12, and with them up, once again terrible visibility, and no storage. 2nd row is also a tight fit I think for me. (I'm 17 and 6 1 tho) We get average 16.6 MPG I'd go for something more fuel efficient IMPO

Wow... you guys would REALLY be whining about the ZJ's with the 5.2 and the full-time T-cases...... 16 mpg really isnt bad considering it is the same class of vehicle as a Tahoe and Expedition...

I love the commander and if you are getting 16 in it then you are doing good, Mine averages only 14. You are right about the 3rd row seat it is great for kids and that is about it.

But it is a grown up XJ and that is another reason Why i love it!

My wife traded her van in for one and she loves it. We have three kids and six neices and nephews. It seems we always gain a kid or two daily, so the third row is great.
It has the six and I do wish I got the 4.7 instead. Thought the gas mileage would be better. It gets around 14 city and 18 highway. My XJ gets better mpgs. It is a dune monster and flawless in bad weather. I plan on installing a RK budget boost and some bfg ats this summer.

There is a website (of course) dedicated to the jeep commander owners. www.JeepCommander.com

I was checking out images of lifted commanders as well and there are some real nice looking ones out there.

If I had a complaint about ours it would be wind noise at the windshield. Anyone else have this problem. Its a higher pitch leak type.

I noticed that with ours a while back, but since then it has stopped.

Ya, the dealer said they could fix it no problem. So that will happen when I bring it in for a "stumbbling @ idle" problem. That, is another reoccuring problem they are trying to fix. I still love it though. Its a Jeep.LOL

I don't need nor want one. The only other Jeep I'd own besides my XJ is Wrangler Rubi and that is just because the lockers, gears and 4:1 Low Range aren't offered from the factory on an XJ.

How would a Commander work as a tow vehicle? Like pulling a car hauler with another jeep. I've seen hemi durangos doing it but don't know how fun of a ride it would be. Not comparing to a one ton diesel truck just as an all around tow vehicle.

I've had luck with it. Not pulling another jeep but when I moved from Wa state to Ky. I rented a full size trailer and pulled my Ford Escort on it. Went across the Rockies and everything no problems even passes a lot of people going up hill! Mine was also only the 4.7l not the Hemi. So IMO it was great at towing!
