Getting started on the YJ spring build now!

Before pics....

Took the rear shackles off, disconnected the brake lines, disconnected the shocks, removed the springs from the front spring hangers...

Thennn removed the rear axle.

After removing the rear axle we took the stock rear shackles off and hung the new "Missing Link" Shackles. Also mounted the rear front spring hangers.
Stock rear shackle beside the Missing Link setup.

Missing Links hung on the rear and the front spring hangers mounted.

Rear front spring hanger.

Pulled the Sami springs off the rear axle.

The YJ springs I will be using. The fronts are 4 leaves and the rears are 5 leaves.
Rear spring on top and the fronts on the bottom.

Stock Samurai rear leaf spring beside a rear YJ spring. Sami spring on top.

So after fighting with pulling the stock bushings out of all the shackle sides of the YJ springs (the spring hanger sides need to be cut out and boy is that a dern fight.) We replaced the bushings in one spring and went to hang it and found out I put the wrong sleeve in the bushings. I had the dern things backwards. So being tired, we called it a day.

All that's left to finish the rear is swap out the bushing sleeves that I had backwards, put the bushings in the other spring, put the sleeves in the right way, cut off old spring perches on the axle, weld on new ones then hang the axle back in place!

I think it was a nice, pretty, productive day!

Now. . .

Got the rear axle spring perches off. Where I had done a spring over lift the last time both the top and bottom perches were still on the axle. So after about 3 1/2 hours of grinding on the axle it was clean and the old perches were gone.

Got the rear YJ springs hung. The spring bolt sleeves that came with the Energy Suspension Bushings didn't fit in the spring hangers so they to had to have almost 3/8" taken off them to. (more grinding)

Now just have to put the gears in the T-case and put it under the truck so we can find the rear axle pinion angle.
Center the axle and Weld on the spring perches.
Put it all back together.
Rear will be done.

Then on to the front end.

Also in the mean time I got my 6.5 tcase gears in along with my u-bolts.

Finally got the rear end under the Samurai. The spring perches were welded on and the rear was bolted in place. Alls thats left in the rear is to hook up the brake lines, drive shaft, shocks.... (lil things)

It seems pretty tall. Taller than I thought it'd be. Hopefully it will settle a little before I put the 34"ers on. Now on to the front!

Pics will be taken soon. Hopefully to be picking up speed with this build due to cold weather and it all being done in gravel outside at a friends place.

More to come soon! ( I hope....)

Getting some smaller stuff done. . .

I went and got three of the 31" tires taken off of the wheels and had three of the 34" tires mounted back on them.
I only was able to do three of them because that meant I had 3 34" tires, 3 31" tires on the wheels and the Jeeps full size spare in the back. Thats all I could fit in the Cherokee. LOL Now only two left to do.

Also being that my seats are totally trashed and falling apart, gear oil embedded in them, springs poking out. I bought some Honda Civic seats. These seats are mint! They have almost 0 wear showing on them. Why civic seats..... Well I paid $10 bucks for the set! LOL !

Anyway, Its been a while since I posted a pic of it (the Samurai) so I took a quick one with my phone yesterday afternoon while picking up my tires. Its not the best pic in the world but its still proof of progress! It still has the 31" LTBs on the back. The front is nearing completion hopefully soon.

Here ya go folks. In all its (NON) mightiness!

Needless to say , I'm maybe a little excited!

Getting some done just the other day.

We had a bit of a late start on the day due to some other things going on and having to run to the local Pick-N-Save. At this point I'm happy if I get 10 minutes done. Progress is progress.

Well the front end was pulled completely out, Both sets of old spring perches were cut / ground away. Got everything prepped to go back under it. Grinding and cutting took the most of the majority of the time.

Also got the rear tires put on. finally looks proportioned. The YJ springs & the 31s looked a little .... uhhh ...... yeah.... Hahahaa!

Now all that is actually left is...
Weld on new perches
flip spring pin for SOA
Hang front axle
Drill 4 holes in front spring hangers for bolts to go in. (Two per side)
Hook up brake lines (bleed system)
Tcase gears need to be installed.
Tcase mounted
Hook up driveshafts
Figure out something for shocks

Figure out something to do for the front and rear Missing Links to rest against. The front hit in about the middle of the shackle on the bumper. Hes gonna fab something. For the rear the hanger hits the rear bumper mount and were going to use the bump stops that came with the kit to cure this.

That should be about it. Hopefully things will be winding up here shortly! Nothing thats left is hard, just time consuming as hell.

Pics...
The front axle after just cutting. Still needed to be hit by the grinder and cleaned.

The rear with the 31 still on it. Just took the pic to look at hangers setup.

Front with its arms out welcoming rocks soon to come and play!

Side shot with the 34s on the back and the spare on the back. (No, the spare is not going to stay there.)

So this is where I'm at now with the build of my Samurai. Being that it's outside, here recently it's been kinda hard to work on it with the snow we've been having.

Thanks again for reading and hopefully more will be done soon. (weather permitting)

I can't wait!!!

Thanks!
Hahaa yeah! You should have seen the guys at the shop when I carried it in after telling them I was bringing it. They asked where it was, and when I told them it was in the back of my Cherokee they didn't believe me and asked if I needed a hand bringing it in. I told them no and bought it in. They all were laughing pretty good as I carried it to my friends bay!

Thank you! I may get around to touching it up sometime. On the sliders and bumpers i was the non textured bed liner and it really sucked. Not that I really expect much to hold up to rubbing against rocks and trees.

Yeah, I like that saying "God forgives, Rocks don't". Stumps can be pretty unforgiving at times to. I've heard they HATE steering parts.

we used home made "fireworks" to take care of it. and the saddest part was it had 70,000miles on it and was canadian! also had center roof console with the digital outside temp and compass in it. it was loaded! twas a sad sad day. more sad than when my sami blew up. but oh well got two more xjs now.
