The blue wire should be a ground from the cdi box to the gound where the battery is grounded. The other end should be attatched to a bolt on the cdi box.

When you pull the plugs check for water, the starter should be turning like hell if it is not it is probably getting weak. Check your battery connections on the batt and the cdi, starter, remove and clean. do not over tighten the wires on the solenoid! PM if needed I have had 8 550's rebuilt them all ground up.

Don't worry about the gas vent. Hate to say it but the starter is probably going out they do not last long. What does the carb look like? pic from sides?

The starters get weak. they sell them on ebay or get one from a ski/bike shop I think the last one I bought was 189. Get a high torque if they can get one. If it is sluggish and won't start is is probably bad. Be sure the batt is still charged because they will go dead fast if you have been tryin to start it. Remember this is a 2 stroke it has to spin like hell to get going.
Use plugs br7es not br8es which the factory recommends. The br7es burns hotter. Use factory gap .028-.032in.
