putting BIG brakes, on a BIG jeep....
so, one of our customers is a YJ with a custom 4 link front and back, 40's, spiderlocks, Currie 9's front and rear, Atlas TC, and some other misc work.
anyways, the jeep was built around 10 years ago, and the back brakes were built with a 12" wilwood brake setup. but the front was ordered with d30 outers because he wanted a 5x4.5 bolt pattern so he cound run his 37's with Weld wheels. now this wasnt to much of an issue before because the wheel and tire combo was pretty light. but, since we recently installed the 40" tires on some HEAVY 20" poison spider bead locks it has become increasingly harder to stop and the owner wanted that fixed. so, the little 10.5" rotor and single piston caliper had to go.
The Jeep.
we thought about a few options, and came to what we thought was the most cost effective solution
we decided to go with the big Range Rover brake setup, which is a beefy 14" rotor and a huge dual piston caliper.
new rotor Vs old rotor
we needed to first redrill the rotor to fit the 5x5.5 bolt pattern.
so next thing is cutting off all of the old caliper mounts that were cast into the knuckle, this is also to clearence for the back of the rotor
then some grinding to smooth it all out
rotor mounted up...
so,now were waiting on the calipers to get here so we can weld up the new bracketry.....
i will update as i go along

Nice work.
A question about the rig if I may.
It looks like a lot of money was spent for good parts. But, being that tall and short coupled, is it actually useful for any serious off-roading?

well, we got the calipers in and the bracket is all fabbed up.
i didnt have my phone so no pictures, ill get some sunday or monday.
but after looking at everything, i dont see why this setup couldnt be easily reproduced for any d30 with a unit bearing eliminator kit. the caliper mounting bracket requires no welding.
i could only imagine how well a mild build xj could stop with these rotors and calipers.
maybe if there is some interest after all is said and done we could make a few more as a kit

It's a sleeved currie 9, with d30 c's.
And its been like that for 10 years on 37's

Theirs not much metal surrounding the bolts if any
