the shackle box on a XJ is offset from the "frame" so kind makes it hard to do also... and it would have to be wrapped in steel

I had a 1/4 elips on my YJ a few years back that worked really well but I had a very well tuned traction bar system on the axle. I achieved about 6" more wheel travel and only had about $60.00 in the whole setup. This is one of those designs with a lot of potential for success and failure. I set one up on an XJ as well once but it never saw the pavement. If you run really stiff, gas charged, shocks you can achieve a Decent highway ride. The traction bars are key. Make sure you know what you are doing before you try and set one up. Its kind of like a revolver shackle in that it allows your springs to unload in a really crappy way that plops you on your roof very fast.

well i got a buddy that runs it on his yota with some cut 1 ton chevy leafs and that thing is insane it has far more flex than the one picture thats on here.

yeah it would get some bad flex steer but could you just the same fab up a four link to run with it to get ride of that. Be alot of time and work but i am wondering about your personal opinions on the 1/4 elliptic vs the coils. I know you can do alot with those 1/4 elliptic suspensions my buddy says he out wheels alot of the guys with full built custom rigs and you can make them for cheap too. SO i am more concerned with how it preforms against a 4 link coil.

Yeah i know that the shocks would make some what drivable on the road but those shocks are crazy expensive. If i were to do this i would definitely would not be driving it to and from work

Yeah if you do something like that I don't recommend tera flex shackles they suck. Z boxes are good my buddy has those on his XJ thats on 37's. He has insane flex and it drives pretty good on the road but definitely not a good daily driver.
