Really nice job. I really like that you used tubing instead of typical looking bumpers, the dimpled inserts really set it off.

A simple pull on the handle retracts the plunger allowing the carrier to swing open.

Hey Frank, where did you get this and how much was it?

Been a while since I've been able to work on this thing. Took a little time away from a few other projects and made a little progress today.

Got some mounting points welded on for a Hi-Lift Jack.

Used a spare stub shaft and unit bearing hub to mount the spare. The stub shaft has had the ears removed and is welded to the cross bar. The hub is secured to the stub shaft with a hub nut. The hub serves double duty as a tire mount and trail spare.

I've got sideview mirrors, plenty of glass, and my last carrier held the tire just has high.

It's not a problem if you pay attention.

Just so you know, the latch you bought is commonly used on tow trucks. They are used on the wheel lifts a lot.

Cool. Was reading the thread again and never saw where anyone said they knew. Awesome build. I love the idea of the spare unit bearing and axle shaft. I was hoping to do something similar, I just wasn't sure the way to go about it. Now I know.
