I would leave about 2 inches of box tube that way you have a greater surface area to pull on.
The hitch is twisted I'm not concerned with saving it at all. I think the idea of taking the left side off is good. I have to see if the frame was tweaked over there at all...

IMO, you're wasting your time on a big chunk of plentiful sheet metal but you're going to do it anyways.

Good luck.

You should certainly keep this thread updated as your progress continues.
Thanks for the good luck wishes. I'll transfer this all to a build thread once I actually start doing work on it and post up a link for anyone interested. I know it's a waste of time to try and fix it to original. If I ever get sick of the dents I'll buy a new door and hatch and get some corner armor. I plan on cutting and folding the rear quarter panel.

****** the hell out of it but be careful using the hitch as a ****** point it is anchored in thin sheet metal. I used my hitch to ****** a f100 out of the swamp and it straightened out my frame every so slightly. Just lock it in 4lo and dont exceed 25mph imo

Meaning don't drive it over 25 any more? Or don't drive over 25 to straighten it? I wasn't planning on going much over idle for that.

i'm all for the diy'er, but in this case, i would just put the drive train into something that deserved it. that thing is so done. your time must not be worth much. post back what happens today though. if you can get it fixed properly, i'll give you an internet beer.

It's still bent a little, but the rust that has formed made it easier to pull. I would take pictures but you can't tell how much it was bent up before. The bottom is bent down a tiny but but the floor sits "flat" and the dents in the quarter panel are straightened out. The leaf spring didn't bend back, but the shackle moved forward so I got that accomplished.

I did about 5... 10 tops. It did a decent job combined with a hammer. Once I get it on the road I'm gonna take it down to a buddies house and use his winch. I feel like slow pulling will work better... just in case.

That may work better then snatching on it.

The thing I need to do now is make it go up. The bumper was sitting right before and now the bend is less but the bend makes the bumper lower. I dunno a better way to word that.

Chain the front end to a tree and have you buddy park so he is higher then the back of the jeep and winch even if he pulls the rear end off the ground youd have the weight of the XJ pushing down as he pulls it up. Mite help a lil but not sure

I was gonna try something like that. The metal will bend with pulling but it won't stay like that until I hit it. So I may try just jacking the jeep up at the end of the frame and taking some good whacks at it. If that doesn't work I'm gonna Have to take the trailer hitch off. It's really keeping me from bending it easily I think.
