I am 15 and a freshman in high school. This means I don't have a lot of money.
So here is what I have so far:
Started with a 3"x4"x1/2" plate welded to the inside tab of frame..
Next I welded a piece of angle iron the the plate and then to the front box of frame...
With 2 holes drilled into the end I bolted on another 6" of plate to the end..
Then cut out a peice of channel iron and welded to the 6" plate..
Drilled the holes for the winch..
Then welded on a plate for roller and then put the roller on..
This is what it looks like today
Pm me for questions

looks good but add more than 2 bolts. that will rip right out with your first off camber pull.... I am weary of the welds on the unbody. but good start!

i would run a minimum of 5 bolts per side even with the welds

I would agree.. My neibor owns a fabrication shop and it is just tacked up. Not fully welded in yet. Still need the angle iron to the "frame" he seems to think 2bolts will be fine.. They are beefy and already pulled his big f-350 up a steep driveway and it did fine but I will definently think about adding more bolts. Thanks

Well one I'm kinda at the point of where I have to decide what I wanna do... If I wanna keep going with pice or use tube or plate... I wanna keep it cheap.. But strong as well.what do you think my best bet s. Because some people say pipe gets mashed and others say it is all good and strong. So what would be my best bet? (I will also figure out about bolts and all that s*** but just wanna have a design in mind) and feed back would really help

I'm not crazy about the look of tube front bumpers. I don't think they are nearly as strong as a good 1/4" thick or 1/8" thick square tube bumper, BUT, if bent, the tube bumper parts would be easily cut out and replaced............my .02

You can have strong, or you can have cheap. Unless you have heavy strong stuff lying around (i imagine if you did it would already be on there) it can be tricky to do both

Looking for a good compromise...... I have like almost 200 and I get everything shop price. But I also want to make sliders and a rear bumper pretty bad... I know I don't have enough right now but... Don't really wanna spend it all on front

Finally got some work done. Made a stinger and also made some stronger welds and just welded it into one peice so I don't have to worry about the bolts. Hopefully more soon

I'm going to be 100% honest and tell you I wouldn't trust that pulling my jeep. There's a reason why aftermarket bumpers come with 5-7 bolts per side. The XJs unibody is very flexible and by spreading out the bolts across a larger area it creates a better pull. Sure it may pulled the truck with no problem, but was it buried in a hole like you will need to use the winch when you're on the trail? I'm not just giving an opinion, I'm giving actual experience where people thought it was strong enough and ended up tearing it off. I've seen it a bunch of times and it never ends well. Just a little to think about.
