I used another xj roof for panels to fab up some flares. I cut out the rear fenders flush with the wheelwells so i gained about an inch of clearance back there. The front fenders were already cut so i just welded the flares to them. Took care of some body rust in the process also. I dont know if i like how far they stick out yet, i may have to trim them. My wheelin tires stick out farther than them as seen in the pics, and my 33" street tires sit in but it still looks pretty good. We'll see how much i bend them on trees, but at least i can bend them right back. Eventually i will build tubes around them and tie them to the rocker slides and bumpers.

Let me know what you think of them. Im sure i will get some sort of flamage on them but i dont care, i like them.

They stick out about 4.5" in the front and 3.5" in the back. Its just about the same as the bushwackers on my girlfriends 89' stick out.

I kind of wanted the look of the jeep M-715 fenders.

I'm planning on putting fiberglass prerunner flares on the front of mine, and I had no clue what I was doing for the rear. But now I know how I can fix some rust issues with the wheel wells, and add some flares to match the front

 

If you went to the trouble of making them, why not just make 'em wide enough to cover the entire wheel? If you're looking to make the po-po happy, they might still be grumpy.

But your flares turned out great.

 

They cover my street tires fine. I wanted my wheelin' tires to stick out from them. I still actually may cut them but id loose my little body line in them.

I think they are a little thin too, but i used what i had. If i could have got my hands on some 55 gal drums, that material would have been better i think. But like i said, i want to add tubing around them.

I'm diggin em. You could cut off the front bend of the front ones and turn your xj into a flattie! I imagine that might look weird though. Anywho, no flamage here

 

Now you can not only tenderize a deer, you can also cut it in half!!!

I think they look great, might not last long though. When you can afford it, just buy some tube to bend and run inside the outside groove. That will make them a bajillion times stronger.
