cheap/easy way to mount a hi-lift on your rack
I thought I would share my idea. Im sure Im not the only one to think of this. This isn't exactly a fab project but I wasn't sure where else to post it. I bought a roof rack online and it didnt come with a mount for a jack. The company sold the mounting braket and was asking $60 for it. I took the cheaper route and used some exhaust clamps. The cool part is, it actually allows the jack to sit lower on the rack than the companies mount did so I have more clearance.

thats very similiar to the one I couldve bought. the problem with it for me is, it wouldnt fit in the garage with that on. That mount raises it up higher and I needed it lower to clear the garage. Ill try to get some pictures up tonight. Im not saying that mount is bad, just doesnt work for my situation.

nope, no noise at all from the mount. i bolt mine in with wing nuts, and lock it with a padlock.
only noise is the slight bit from the base of the hi-lift.

The pics below show how its set up and how it makes the profile of the jeep lower. The other mounts in some of the pics above do have the advantage of sitting outside the rack allowing for more space on top. My way takes up some room on top but I could still mount a 35 in tire with room to spare. Also, the bottom of the jack does rattle some and makes noise so I was able to get rid of the noise by placing the jack all the way against the back of the rack so the bottom piece can't move or make noise. I plan on going back and shortening the threads so they dont stick up so much.

Ive never seen a great way of doing in on the bumper and I had to find a place to put my spare so why not on the rack. When you say bumper mount, do you mean on the rear bumper with the tire carrier or something? I have a stock rear bumper without tire carrier so couldnt. Please put up some pics of if you have any.

here is how mine is mounted actually. it uses the high lift bumper mounts which i got from the tractor supply store for $20 and they have the holes drilled into them to lock them. I mounted each mount just inside of where the bumper/frame mounts are and it has help up very well! i actually slammed into a rock and it bent my high lift..... i had to get a new one and the bumper still looks untouched even after the hit.
i have thought about putting it on my rack like i did with my shovel but i have never seen any reason too. (my albums has all of my photos)
